The main research focuses of the Deep-sea Underwater Information Technology Research Team lie in deep-sea acoustic positioning and navigation, deep-sea acoustic detection, deep-sea remote underwater acoustic communication networking technology, etc. In the recent 5 years, the team has undertaken more than 30 projects from National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program), National Key Research & Development (R&D) Plan, National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, basic research of national defense, National Natural Science Foundation of China, naval equipment pre-research, and so on, with the total project funding of more than 90 million yuan. The key technology achievements of the team include: 1. The team developed the first deep sea ultra-short baseline positioning system in China, based on the high resolution deep sea ultra-short baseline acoustic positioning technology, which has been applied to many major national military and civil projects, such as the manned submersible “Jiaolong”. This achievement has won the second prize of National Technology Invention Award in 2016, and the first prize of the Marine Engineering Science and Technology Award in 2014; 2. The team developed the high resolution deep sea acoustic comprehensive positioning technology, which is the first in world to achieve sub-meter deep sea positioning accuracy. This achievement has won the second prize of the Technology Progress Award of the State Administration of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense in 2014, and it has been selected into the top ten major advances in marine science and technology of China in 2015. In the thirteenth Five-Year Plan, this technology will be applied in the National Key R&D Plan of “Hadal Project” targeting at the 11000 meters deep Mariana Trench; 3. The team has made breakthrough in the acoustic phased array based accurate Doppler speed test and navigation technology, which has been widely applied in naval ships and underwater weapons. This achievement won the second prize of National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016. For now, the team has 24 faculty members, including 3 professors, 9 associate professors, 5 lecturers, and 7 full-time scientific researchers.
